It’s always a party when Vans comes to down! The 2014 Vans US Open of Surfing has once again overtaken the Huntington Beach Pier to the delight of thousands of surf fans, beach enthusiasts and sun-lovers. The competition has been fierce and then fun has been at an all time high during the first week of the annual event.
Let’s take a look at the Van’s Daily Morning Reviews, courtesy of Van’s and Adam Espino, as we head into the final weekend of competition.
Day 6
The swell subsided for most of the day today, with the morning’s Women’s heats benefitting from the day’s best wind conditions. Eight women battled in four heats to secure spots in the Women’s Quarterfinals against top competitors Malia Manuel, Carissa Moore, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Stephanie Gilmore. Nikki Van Dijk narrowly edged out young Hawaiian Tatiana Weston-Webb in Heat 1 of the morning. Australian Tyler Wright put on the premier Round 4 performance with a heat score of 17.67. Full Report
Day 5
Today’s surf competitors will hope that a surprise bump in the swell persists for another day, as yesterday’s scores noticeably benefited from improved surf conditions. The women’s contest will continue to roll along with four heats of Round 4 action this morning as the women’s field has been narrowed to twelve surfers. Full Report
Day 4
Day 4 will start with the last six heats of Round 1 of the Men’s Prime main event. Be sure to keep an eye out for Huntington Beach legend Brett Simpson in Heat 23 and ASP 9th ranked surfer Kolohe Andino. Full Report
Day 3
Huge day on the beach today with the first day of the ASP Men’s Prime main event at the 2014 Vans US Open of Surfing. Over the course of the day, the first 18 heats of Round 1 will go off featuring surfing’s best talent and its brightest stars. Full Report
Day 2
First in the water this morning are the Men’s Trials competitors. Tune in to watch 32 surfers battle it out in the morning swell to see who will compete with the ASP’s top-ranked surfers in the ASP Men’s Prime event starting Monday. Full Report
Day 1
True to form, day one of the event has begun under a thick blanket of coastal fog. The weather forecast, however, promises afternoon heat and pristine California sunshine. Surf competition begins today with the Men’s Pro Junior. Prepare to see some of the world’s best young talent ripping in the first two rounds of action. Full Report
