After a 3-1 loss in the opening round of the International Champion’s Cup, the LA Galaxy reversed the score for a 3- 1 win over Juventus in Saturday evening’s double header in the iconic Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
In their second game of the tourney, the Galaxy came out strong , rejoined by Omar Gonzalez and Landon Donavan, who were not able to play with the Galaxy in their first round loss to Real Madrid. The duo returned from the MLS All-Star Game to lead their team to victory.
The first ever meeting between the Galaxy and Juventus got off to a tight start. Galaxy was the first to score, lead by Gonzalez. The Texas native passed off to Michael Stephens, who sent it back to Juninho for the one-touch back to Gonzalez for the goal.
Juventus, however, quickly responded. After Galaxy keeper, Brian Rowe blocked the shot from Fabio Quagliarella, Alessandro Matri jumped on the loose ball to tie the score, 1-1, just three minutes later.
In the second half, Juventus manager, Antonio Conte, worked hard to switch it up against the local team with 11 changes. Galaxy was on a roll, though, and dominated the second half. Galaxy’s Sarvas was able to steal the ball from Arturo Vidal and pass it on to teammate, Robbie Keane, donning the field after a hip-injury which prevented him from playing in the first round. Keane floated the ball over the penalty area and on to Donovan to bring the score to 2-1.
Keane went on to solidify the lead with a last-minute goal in the 89th. The Irishman took advantage of a week pass by Andrea Pirlo to lead the Galaxy to a 3-1 win.
The victory gives the LA Galaxy a chance at 3rd place in the ICC. They will head to Miami to face-off against AC Milan on Wednesday evening.
